Porta Garibaldi is one of the remaining historic entrance gates into the city of Marsala though I believe the presently standing gate replaced an earlier one in the seventeenth century. The entrance gate is appropriately named after Garibaldi as he and his men entered Sicily in 1860 beginning the process of Italian.

Originally, it was called the "sea gate" because as the name suggests, it overlooked the sea. It was built in 1685 at the request of the King of Spain in defense of the city.
